California emissions compliance
Clean Truck Check compliance tracking
Keep California Clean Truck Check testing records, results and deadlines on the vehicle they belong to, with failures routed into documented repair work.
Who this is for
Fleets operating non-gasoline heavy-duty vehicles in California that fall under the CARB program.
California-based heavy-duty fleets
Operators responsible for meeting periodic emissions compliance testing deadlines across multiple units.
Out-of-state carriers running into California
Fleets whose vehicles operate in California and need to confirm whether the program applies to them.
The problems it solves
- Compliance deadlines tracked in a spreadsheet separate from the maintenance system.
- Test results held only by the testing provider, not by the fleet.
- A failed test with no clear record of what was repaired before the retest.
- Emissions diagnostics and compliance testing blurred into one ambiguous note.
What the software does
Per-vehicle compliance records
Test date, result, tester and supporting documents on the vehicle itself.
- Pass and fail results recorded
- Uploaded documentation retained
- Searchable by unit, VIN or plate
Due-date visibility
Compliance deadlines tracked per vehicle rather than as one fleet-wide reminder.
- Due and overdue views
- Filter by vehicle class or location
- History of prior compliance periods
Failures routed into repair
A failed test becomes scheduled work with a documented outcome.
- Findings captured with photos
- Repairs tracked on work orders
- Retest result linked to the original record
Separation from diagnostics
Emissions troubleshooting and compliance evidence stay distinct.
- Diagnostic events recorded separately
- No repair represented as a passing test
- Clear record type on every entry
How it runs
- 1
List affected vehicles
Identify which units in the fleet fall under the program based on CARB's criteria.
- 2
Record the compliance period
Enter the testing deadline for each vehicle and its prior result if there is one.
- 3
Log the test
Record the test date, tester, result and supporting documentation.
- 4
Fix and retest failures
Failures become repair work, with the retest linked back to the original record.
- 5
Keep the evidence
The vehicle's emissions compliance history stays retrievable for later reference.

Common questions
What is Clean Truck Check?
Clean Truck Check is the California Air Resources Board's heavy-duty inspection and maintenance program for non-gasoline heavy-duty vehicles operating in California. It replaced the earlier periodic smoke inspection program and involves reporting, fees and periodic emissions compliance testing. Confirm applicability, deadlines and testing frequency on the CARB program page.
Does AssetStacc submit test results to CARB?
No. Reporting and submission happen through CARB's own system. AssetStacc records what was tested, when, by whom and with what result, so the fleet has its own retrievable evidence and due dates.
Which vehicles are subject to Clean Truck Check?
CARB describes the program as covering non-gasoline heavy-duty vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating above 14,000 pounds that operate in California, including out-of-state vehicles. Some categories are treated differently or excluded. AssetStacc does not determine whether a given unit is subject — confirm applicability on the CARB Clean Truck Check program page.
How often is compliance testing required?
CARB has phased the program in, with most subject vehicles moving to periodic testing on a semi-annual basis and certain fleet categories tested more often. Because the schedule and phase-in dates change, check the current requirement and your vehicle's due date on the CARB program page. AssetStacc tracks whatever interval and due date you set for each unit and warns before it lapses.
Is a diagnostic scan the same as a compliance test?
No. Diagnostics, repairs and forced regenerations are separate from official compliance testing, and AssetStacc never records one as the other. See advanced emissions diagnostics for that work.
What is available today?
Per-vehicle emissions compliance records, test dates and results, due-date tracking and repair follow-up are available today. Direct CARB system integration is not offered and is not on the near-term roadmap.
